How to Get Rid of Dry Skin

It’s much more common to suffer from dry skin during the winter months, when the weather is colder and harsher to skin, although some people are plagued by it all year round due to various skin conditions.

Dry skin can look unsightly and flaky, as well as feeling chapped and sore, but there are steps you can take to get rid of it or at least soothe it while you try to banish it for good.

There should be two main stages to your fight against dry skin: protection and nourishment. Here are our top tips for how to do both:

Protect Your Skin

If you suffer from dry skin, it’s important to avoid anything that will make it worse. Exposure to the elements is an obvious step, so make sure you always wear gloves when outdoors in winter, as this is when dry skin is most likely to be exacerbated.

You can wrap up so well that your face is the only part of your body exposed, so make sure you’ve applied a moisturiser for dry skin before leaving the house to keep it protected too.

Choose skincare products that are gentle to skin and unscented where possible - these are less likely to contain chemicals that could be harsh to sensitive skin, making it even more dry.

For example, the Dermikelp® products available from Natural Beauty Online have only a light scent, and they’ve been dermatologically tested and found to be sensitive to skin and non-irritant, making them a good choice for dry skin.

Be mindful of the type of laundry detergent you’re using too, making sure it’s suitable for sensitive skin and doesn’t contain any irritants; otherwise, you could be drying your skin out constantly, without even realising.

And although long hot showers and sitting close to the fireplace can be oh-so tempting during the winter, both of these simple pleasures could actually dry out your skin. Try to keep your showers to around five minutes in total and make sure they’re not too steamy, as this can lead to dry skin too.

You might want to think about adding extra moisture to the air in your home by using a humidifier as well, but, ultimately, you need to be putting moisture and hydration into your skin with your skincare routine.

Nourish Your Skin

Actively nourishing, moisturising and hydrating your skin is essential for getting rid of dry skin. Use a body wash for dry skin, and make sure you apply your moisturiser straight after washing to keep as much moisture locked into your skin as possible.

At Natural Beauty Online, you’ll find a wide range of products containing naturally nourishing ingredients like sea kelp, which is the perfect ingredient to use to nourish your skin, as it’s packed with natural goodness, including essential nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants.

The different types of kelp found across our collection of products have been sustainably sourced, so you know you’ll be buying products that are kind to the environment as well as your skin.
